How we approach each project
Every Scarborough property is different, and we treat it that way. When you call us, Julian will come out to meet with you personally -- not a sales rep, but the person who'll be designing your garden. We'll walk your property together, discuss your vision, and talk about what's realistic for your space and budget.
We work within any budget -- it comes down to what your garden needs and what works for you. Sometimes it's a complete redesign, sometimes it's refreshing what you already have. Either way, you'll get an honest assessment and a plan that makes sense.
Working in Scarborough neighbourhoods
Scarborough's diverse housing stock presents unique opportunities. In Clairlea, we often work with established perennial beds that just need refreshing and better structure. The sandy conditions near the Bluffs require different plant selections and more attention to water retention.
Dense neighbourhoods like Scarborough Village mean working efficiently in smaller spaces -- we're experienced at maximizing impact even when square footage is limited. Our approach adapts to what your specific property needs.
Timing and seasonal planning
Spring is our busiest season for installations, typically April through June once the ground has thawed. Fall planting (September through October) is actually ideal for many perennials and shrubs -- they establish roots over winter and come back stronger in spring.
Summer projects focus on maintenance, seasonal colour rotations, and smaller installations. We avoid major plantings during July and August heat, but there's always something we can do to improve your garden.
What happens during installation
Installation day starts with protecting your existing landscape and property. We'll lay down protective coverings for driveways and walkways, and clearly mark any utilities or irrigation lines. Most residential projects take 3-10 working days depending on scope.
You'll see the same team every day -- that's important to us. We clean up completely at the end of each day, so your property isn't disrupted more than necessary. When we're finished, we'll walk you through everything we've installed and provide care instructions.
Plant selection for Scarborough conditions
We choose plants that thrive in southern Ontario's climate, considering factors like winter hardiness, summer heat tolerance, and local growing conditions. Native and adapted species form the backbone of our designs -- they're more resilient and require less maintenance once established.
For challenging spots, we have proven solutions. Shady areas under mature trees, wet spots that don't drain well, or sandy areas that dry out quickly -- we've handled them all and know what works.
Maintenance and ongoing care
A landscape installation is the beginning, not the end. New plantings need consistent care through their first growing season to establish properly. We offer maintenance programs that begin after installation to ensure everything develops as designed.
Even low-maintenance gardens need some attention -- spring cleanup, pruning, mulching, and seasonal adjustments. Our maintenance clients get priority scheduling and better pricing because we know their gardens intimately.
